Welcome to  Ilkley Art Trail website…

Plans for the 2012 Trail are now underway. The dates will be 6 – 14 October, so do put it in your diary. Our 2011 Trail was a great critical success and you can get a  flavour of  it by having a look at the video below.

Last year 9 days in October saw the lovely Yorkshire town of Ilkley have its first Art Trail with Open Studios and other venues, including exhibitions in unusual spaces. Some venues covered most of those dates, with participation swelling over both weekends as Artists opened up their studios, homes, garages and invited all to see their work.

All venues were free to visit.

NB:    Some IMPORTANT statistics for Ilkley Art Trail 2011…

Foot-fall across all venues was circa 3,100

The Trail generated sales of over £12,000 for participating artists

We are officially delighted with these statistics, especially given that the weather was not acting in our favour (to say the least),  Ilkley has had no previous experience of hosting anything like the Art Trail and we are in the midst of the grimmest recession. Our aim is to heighten the profile of visual arts in Ilkley and this has well and truly begun. So - onwards and upwards!

Ilkley Art Trail 2011 Programme
Keep scrolling in the above PDF programme to see all artists. Each artist has a red venue number next to their name, which corresponds to a venue number on the map on pages 14 and 15 with a venue list on the very last page.

Fans of the well-established North Yorkshire Open Studios and of  Saltaire Arts Trail  will be familiar with the buzz of the concept. We had 28 venues, some within walking distance of eachother. The work included consisted of paintings, sculpture, ceramics, glass, fabric and artist-made jewellery… All work was curated after a submissions process and the organisation of the Trail for 2011 was undergone by a team of capable and passionate volunteers, with the hope of establishing a more stable, long-term infrastructure as we develop.

We timed the Trail to coincide with Ilkley’s famous Literature Festival, and so cultural stimulation was at the heart of our endeavour here.

We hope to put Ilkley firmly on the map of cultural happenings where visual arts are concerned and our mission is to continue to support visual artists in the region to raise their profile, to exhibit and sell their work in line with contemporary best practice, across many more venues than are currently available to them locally. We aim to bring more art to public spaces and to the public, and in so doing encourage a synergy in the arts locally that enriches the experience of the community and visitors alike.
